Old Street Bak Kut Teh located at Westgate Shopping Center Basement 1 are always crowded with people especially during lunch and dinner hours. Together with my boyfriend, we decided to patronise the restaurant and have their Bat Kut Teh.
Pork Ribs Soup(肉骨茶) - small $7.80
Do you prefer clear peppery broth or dark soya sauce herbal type Bak Kut Teh?
For me, I would choose the clear peppery broth Bat Kut Teh. The peppery taste from Old Street was less intense which will appeal to more people especially for the kids as well.
The meat can be removed from the bone rather easy and of course their meat was chewy and tender. The portion of pork ribs was generous enough for me and my boyfriend to share. Their 'You Tiao' might not be the one you are looking for - crispy and soft inner but rather it was quite hard.
Dry Bak Kut Teh (干肉骨茶)- $9.10(Small)
Other than the normal soup based Bat Kut Teh, we also ordered the dry one to try. The dried one is served in a clay pot while the normal ones are using bowls. To me, the dried one is a little too dry and salty. However, it is quite special as it stirred fried with ginger, ladyfinger and their specialty dark soya sauce which is one of their innovative creation.
